Three annex locations provide service across El Paso County. The Ysleta Annex is at 9521 Socorro Road, Suite A-1, phone (915) 273-3468. The Northeast Annex is at 4641 Cohen Avenue, Suite B, phone (915) 273-3452. The Northwest Annex is at 435 Vinton Rd, Room 208, Anthony, Texas 79821, phone (915) 273-3517. How to Search El Paso Death Index Records
You can request El Paso death index records in person at any county clerk office, by mail to the main courthouse address, or online through VitalChek. The El Paso County Clerk lists VitalChek as an approved online ordering partner. The state portal at Texas.gov also handles statewide death certificate orders. Online and mail orders through the state take 20 to 30 business days. In-person requests at the county office can be same-day in most cases.
For historical research, the Texas Death Index from 1903 to 2000 is available free at FamilySearch. Ancestry also has the index with images for selected years. Both show name, county, date, and certificate number. El Paso County deaths from Bexar County (earlier historical records before 1903 organization) are also part of the broader Texas archive. If a record is not found at the state level, check the El Paso County Clerk directly as local offices sometimes hold records not yet digitized statewide.
Death records less than 25 years old are restricted. Only immediate family members or persons with legal standing may request them. Public death records are those 25 or more years old under Texas Government Code ยง 552.115.
El Paso Death Record Fees
Death certificates from the El Paso County Clerk cost $21 for the first copy and $4 for each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time. All copies are certified. There is a search fee equal to the certificate cost if a record is searched but not found. That fee is not refunded. Payment methods at the county clerk include cash, check, and money order. Online orders through Texas.gov accept credit and debit cards.
To request records at the county clerk, bring a current government-issued photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, or military ID are all acceptable. DD-214 Military Discharge records can be filed with the El Paso County Clerk at no charge.
