Corpus Christi City Secretary vital records for death index

The city office accepts in-person, online, and mail requests. Online orders require identity documents emailed within 7 days of payment.

Corpus Christi death certificates for deaths within the past 25 years are restricted. Qualified requesters include: the surviving spouse (listed on the certificate), parent (named on the deceased's birth certificate), sibling (sharing at least one parent), grandparent (with the child's birth certificate showing the relationship), child (with parent's name on their own birth certificate or listed as informant), legal guardian (with a certified court order), and attorneys (with bar card and court documents). Insurance beneficiaries named in a policy and persons named in a will may also qualify with proper documentation.

For deaths older than 25 years, records are public information. Any person can request them without showing a family relationship. Valid ID is still required for all requests. The Corpus Christi office accepts a wide range of ID alternatives if you don't have a state-issued ID: Social Security card, court documents, marriage license, divorce decree, high school diploma, voter registration card, Medicaid card, passport, utility bill, tax return, and more.

Corpus Christi Death Certificate Fees

The certified death certificate fee is $21 for the first copy. Each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time is $4. A non-refundable search fee of $21 applies if a search is conducted and no record is found. This fee is not credited toward a future order. For short-form abstract certificates, which are available for most Texas deaths after 1925, the same fees apply. Short-form certificates are not accepted for passports or immigration purposes.

Mail and online orders take additional time. The state DSHS portal at dshs.texas.gov processes online orders in 20 to 25 business days and mail orders in 25 to 30 business days. For faster service, visit the city office in person during business hours.
